World Series of Poker Brand No Longer in Possession of Caesars After Being Sold for Half Billion USD

Publication date:

The World Series of Poker (WSOP), a renowned poker tournament series that’s sponsored by Caesars Entertainment and is hosted annually in Paradise, Nevada, US, is no longer related to the aforementioned enterprise in terms of any intellectual property ownership.

The World Series of Poker (WSOP) brand’s intellectual property rights were sold by Caesars Entertainment, Inc., the largest casino-entertainment (whose sportsbook stands out for dollar bets) company in the United States and among the most diverse casino-entertainment providers globally, to NSUS Group Inc., a renowned iGaming investment group that has successfully launched several ground-breaking ventures, including the avant-garde online poker room, GGPoker. A $250 million promissory note secured by the WSOP intellectual property assets, as well as $250 million in cash, are included in the transaction, which has a total value of US$500 million. The note is due five years after the transaction closes.

In exchange for this deal, Caesars has obtained the right from NSUS to carry on the 20-year legacy of holding the WSOP’s main live tournament series at its casinos in Las Vegas for another 20 years. Furthermore, Caesars-operated land-based poker clubs will maintain their WSOP logo, and Caesars destinations will continue to have first dibs on hosting live WSOP Circuit (WSOP-C) tournaments in the future.
