G2 Reverses Customary Trend: After eSports Franchise Success, They Form Football Club

One of the largest eSports organizations in the world, G2 Esports, announced the formation of G2 Football Club, its foray into traditional sports, in the year that it marks its 10th anniversary.

In recent years, there have been many examples of famous football clubs entering the eSports arena by forming independent teams or collaborating with existing eSports franchises. The most successful football breakthroughs into eSports are embodied in PSG Esports, PSG Talon, Manchester City Esports (independently and by teaming up with FaZe Clan), FC Schalke 04 Esports, etc. Such a trend became usual. But forming a football or any traditional sports organization out of eSports is something you won’t see that often.

In celebration of their 10th anniversary, G2 Esports from Germany announced the formation of G2 Football Club, marking their foray into traditional sports. The club will compete against eight other teams in a qualification series that will be revealed on April 12 in order to make its debut in the Kings League Germany. The nation will be represented in the forthcoming Kings World Cup Clubs 2025 by the top two teams from the qualification series, who’ll go to France.

Kings League is a seven-a-side football team with multiple divisions worldwide that was founded by former professional football player Gerard Piqué and well-known Spanish streamer Ibai Llanos. The competition began in Spain in 2022 and has since spread to countries including Italy, Brazil (where it’s hosted by G2 fellow eSports organization FURIA Esports), France, and Germany.

How Is G2 Football Club Structured?

G2 FC, a Berlin-based team, has named Malik Hadziavdic as head coach and Ron Stublla as team manager. The former was once a member of the German National Futsal Team, and Stublla offers a wealth of sports management expertise. The remaining roster members have finished their tryouts, and the complete roster will be revealed shortly.
