VALORANT Champions Tour 2025: China Kickoff

The VALORANT Champions Tour 2025: China Kickoff (VCT 2025: China Kickoff), which will be played for nearly a whole month starting in mid-January, is the second edition of the VCT CN (VALORANT Champions Tour China), the last established of the four major International Leagues of the VALORANT Champions Tour (VCT). China officially joined the VCT with its own dedicated league in 2024 when the game developer Riot Games managed to secure the game a license for its release on the servers in the ”Mainland”. Riot recognized China as the only nation whose pro-gaming of VALORANT is comparable to that of the three International Leagues currently making up VCT: the Americas, EMEA, and Pacific. China is the only VALORANT league consisting of just one country.

As you are already figured out, the VALORANT Champions Tour 2025: China Kickoff is part of the VALORANT Champions Tour, a series of competitions with a points system organized by Riot Games, a co-organizer of the Chinese league, and Tengjing Sports, also known as TJ Sports, which is a Shanghai, China-based provider of eSports business services that include talent management, tournament organization, eSports venues, and other eSports-related goods.

Where and When Will the VALORANT Champions Tour 2025: China Kickoff Be Held?

The VALORANT Champions Tour 2025: China Kickoff will be held from January 11 to February 7. Just like every competition within the Chinese League for VALORANT, this one will be LAN and will be hosted by the VCT CN Arena in the Huangpu District, Shanghai. This venue, along with the Mercedes-Benz Arena, recently co-hosted the VALORANT Masters Shanghai 2024, the second Masters event of the year.

Given it’s a qualifying tournament for the VALORANT Masters Bangkok 2025, there’s no prize pool for the VALORANT Champions Tour 2025: China Kickoff. The teams will compete for the VCT 2025: China Championship Points. The 2025 China Kickoff winner will collect three points; the second-placed will earn two points, while the third- and fourth-place sides will get one point each.

Which Teams Will Take Part in the VALORANT Champions Tour 2025: China Kickoff?

Unlike the inaugural season, when 11 teams were competing, the VALORANT Champions Tour 2025: China Kickoff will feature one more team, including 10 partner organizations and two invitees. All these teams earned their berths at next year's China Kickoff based on their placement in the last season and will be divided into two pools for the Playoffs, which is the sole stage for the event. Teams that participated in the VALORANT Champions 2024 are in Pool 1 (EDward Gaming, Trace Esports, FunPlus Phoenix, and Bilibili Gaming). They get a bye in Round 1, starting from the Upper Bracket Quarterfinals. Pool 2 consists of All Gamers, JD Gaming, Nova Esports, TYLOO, Wolves Esports, Dragon Ranger Gaming, Titan Esports Club, and XLG Esports, and they’ll play against each other in Upper Bracket Round 1. Only the dates of Round 1 and Grand Final are known, and, of course, they are January 11 and February 7. The dates for the other rounds will be determined as the tournament progresses, just like the times for the kick-offs.

The Playoffs are double-elimination brackets, with all matches except the Lower Bracket Final and Grand Final being Bo3. The Lower Bracket Final and Grand Final are Bo5.

Who’ll Win the VALORANT Champions Tour 2025: China Kickoff?

We’d like to separate two favorites for first place at the VALORANT Champions Tour 2025: China Kickoff: EDward Gaming and Trace Esports. These teams are the best-placed teams from China in the VALORANT World Ranking, based on their recent performance. As a matter of fact, EDward are the top-ranked side. No wonder given that they won the VALORANT Champions 2024 and the VALORANT Champions Tour 2024: China Kickoff. This is just a little piece of all the titles EDG won in recent years, mostly in the region, though. They earned $1,003,870 on pro events. They kind of “killed” the competitiveness in Chinese VALORANT. They trade so much better than any other VCT squad that when someone gets killed, trading begins right away. Their executions are incredibly well coordinated. This year, however, they won every title after battling opponents in the final match a lot, in contrast to prior years when they reached all of their final matches very easily and hardly let opponents win a single series. After the VALORANT Champions 2024, EDward Gaming haven’t won a single title. Zheng “ZmjjKK” Yongkang is held to high standards by the team. Although he has always been a great player, he needs to get back to his level from the Masters in Shanghai and Madrid this year, when he was making some respectable runs.

As for Trace, they are ranked 21st in the world, with earnings of $53,183. Except for the VALORANT Champions 2024, when they placed 7th-8th, they were constantly in the top 4 this year in all tournaments they took part, all of which were in China. Trace Esports are the team that seems to be driven by dread. Their players are scared of how loud their coach Gu “destroyeR” will yell at them if they fail, whereas other teams are strengthened by friendship, natural talent, and other qualities. Lu “Kai” Zhinan, who’s currently among the top players in the region and in excellent shape, will be TE’s mainstay at the 2025 Kickoff.

No eSports bookmaker published betting odds or offered their markets for this VALORANT tournament. That’s how it is for now.

Features of the VALORANT Champions Tour 2025: China Kickoff

Even though VALORANT wasn’t licensed for release in China at the time of its global launch, Riot Games showed support for Chinese players by enabling Chinese teams to compete in international tournaments (Masters and Champions) by winning domestic competitions run by third parties and held on a Hong Kong server. Riot introduced the VCT CN and competition places exclusively for Chinese teams in Masters and Champions since 2024, when the game was licensed for release servers on the Chinese mainland.

The only VCT: China Kickoff that was held thus far, the 2024 edition had a peak viewership of 61,585, achieved during the Grand Final between EDward Gaming and FunPlus Phoenix, and 900,200 hours watched
If you’d like to watch the VALORANT Champions Tour 2025: China Kickoff via video stream, don’t expect to hear English commentary. The number of platforms to watch Chinese VALORANT is notable, but everything will be in Chinese: Twitch, YouTube (international platforms), Douyu, Huya, and Bilibili (Chinese platforms).
