Where and When Will the Dota 2: ESL One Bangkok 2024 Be Held?
As we said, including the first ESL One event, ESL One Frankfurt 2014 (which had eight teams competing), there were 46 ESL One tournaments. The next one in Bangkok, Thailand, scheduled to start on December 9 and end on December 15, has high standards to surpass when it comes to Dota 2 events. Namely, with over 11.6 million hours watched (data source: Esports Charts), ESL One Birmingham 2024 (the last ESL One thus far) set a new record for the Dota 2 series when it ended in the UK in April. The higher average audience and more hours of broadcasting allowed for this accomplishment. The average number of concurrent viewers was 146.5K.
ESL One Bangkok 2024, the latest version of the venerable ESL One series, a Dota 2-focused event brand run by ESL Gaming and part of the ESL Pro Tour (EPT), has a $1 million prize fund. Additionally, it awards 20,940 EPT, ensuring invitations to the best-performing teams in subsequent ESL competitions. While the winners will take home the $300,000 grand prize, all competing teams are assured at least a $25,000 profit.
The ESL One Bangkok 2024 prize fund breakdown is as follows:
- 1st: $300,000
- 2nd: $175,000
- 3rd: $120,000
- 4th: $85,000
- 5th-6th: $57,500
- 7th-8th: $47,000
- 9th-10th: $30,000
- 11th-12th: $25,000
The live audience will be present at the Royal Paragon Hall (North and South Halls), an event space that can hold 5,000 people, which is situated in the Siam Paragon shopping center, to watch the Playoff games.
Which Teams Will Take Part in the Dota 2: ESL One Bangkok 2024?
Twelve teams will compete at ESL One Bangkok 2024; four of those teams were invited directly, while the remaining eight were selected through seven regional qualifiers. Four teams were admitted automatically based on their position on the leaderboard of the ESL Pro Tour. On the grounds of their performance in such competitions, this leaderboard totals the points earned by each professional Dota 2 team that has taken part in an ESL event. Since only DreamLeague Season 24 has awarded EPT points thus far, the top four clubs from that league were automatically invited to Bangkok. These teams are Team Falcons, BetBoom Team, Team Spirit, and PARIVISION. The others had to earn their spots via regional qualifiers. The complete list of participating teams is as follows:
Direct invites:
- Team Falcons
- BetBoom Team
- Team Spirit
- PARIVISION
Regional qualifier winners:
- Western Europe: Team Liquid, AVULUS
- Eastern Europe: PuckChamp
- China: Gaozu
- Southeast Asia: BOOM Esports
- North America: Shopify Rebellion
- South America: beastcoast
- MESWA: Nigma Galaxy
The Group Stage, which takes place from December 9 to December 11, and the Playoffs, which take place from December 13 to 15, will be the two separate stages of ESL One Bangkok 2024. A live audience will be present throughout the playoffs, but the Group Stage will only be streamed online.
The 12 competing teams will be divided into two groups of six teams each (Group A and Group B) for the Group Stage. Following that, they’ll play in a single round-robin style, with each match being a best-of-two contest for eight playoff positions. While the third- and fourth-place teams must begin the playoffs in the Lower Bracket, the top two teams in each group will move on to the Upper Bracket. The bottom two clubs will be removed from the competition. The groupings for the Group Stage of ESL One Bangkok 2024 have not yet been made public. Except for the Grand Finals, which will be a complete best-of-five series, all the matches in the Playoffs will be best-of-three in a double-elimination bracket format.
Features of the Dota 2: ESL One Bangkok 2024
There’s a long history of various Dota 2 teams being crowned as ESL One champions. Some of the greatest eSports rosters we’ve ever seen, along with fan-favorite teams, can brag about being ESL One titleholders. These include the recurrent major winners, the Gaimin Gladiators, the dominant Team Falcons, the defending The International champions, Team Liquid, and more.
Team Secret won most ESL One titles for Dota 2: five (Frankfurt 2015, Hamburg 2018, Katowice 2019, Birmingham 2019, and Birmingham 2020: Europe & CIS).
ESL One Bangkok 2024 will be streamed live in English on the official ESL Dota 2 Twitch and YouTube channels, just as the majority of Dota 2 competitions. In order to accommodate the large number of matches during the Group Stage, secondary and tertiary Twitch feeds will also be active.
Who’ll Win the Dota 2: ESL One Bangkok 2024?
Expect an intense battle during the seven days of ESL One Bangkok in front of a full house at the Royal Paragon Hall, as all 12 sides want to end 2024 with an event victory. You’re undoubtedly already aware that Dota 2 betting has been slowly growing and attracting more players every year if you want to try your luck on an outright winner. Many online e-sport bookmakers currently provide a variety of ways to wager on Dota 2’s ESL One Bangkok and its favorites, among which we separate three.
Team Falcons
Beginning with a team that was among the best on the last EPT Leaderboard. In addition to being the reigning champions, Team Falcons have a strong track record of winning all the major competitions. That’s the case presently. Every hero that the Saudi Arabian team has picked has a method of fighting in extremely challenging situations. In every position, including coach, they have the top three players. They are positioned unbelievably. You get the impression that they might return, even if their net worth drops by 10,000.
Team Liquid
The majority of analysts exaggerate Team Liquid’s individual abilities while evaluating their performance. They are excellent because of their teamwork (even if they are down two lanes, they play as a team; they don’t give the enemy a weak point and wait for the perfect moment) and, most importantly, their diversity; we don’t suggest they aren’t among the best in the “individual” segment. But we think the Dutch team has a fairly strong composition overall. Their capacity to play a fast-paced game without making many mistakes is what most impresses us about them and, in our opinion, sets them apart from all other Dota 2 teams. In case you were unaware, playing fast in Dota 2 has two sides and is frequently quite challenging.
BetBoom Team
This is without a doubt one of the most intriguing Dota 2 teams in Eastern Europe. Since each player is among the greatest in their position, the BetBoom Team’s performance has never been surprising. All things considered, the Russians’ performance isn’t as reliable as that of some of the top teams worldwide. BB Team has the potential to win a championship in the future, though, since we have witnessed at least a few events in which the team outperformed all others. But, they need to be much more careful in play to avoid penalties for rule violations, such as abusing a known bug involving the support hero at ESL One Birmingham 2024 (their third penalty for various reasons in the last couple of years).
