In the UK, Medier, a gambling organization based in Cyprus, has sued famed boxer Mike Tyson, claiming that he breached a contract to fight Jake Paul. The lawsuit, which was launched in October by the operator in London’s High Court, is demanding $1.59 million (€1.5 million) from an American fighter who held six heavyweight belts throughout his illustrious and often infamous professional career, according to Reuters and ESPN.
In the court case, Medier, the company that advertises the online casino Rabona, said that it had entered into a promotional agreement with Tyson in January but that Tyson had withdrawn the agreement in March. The operator has refuted Tyson’s claim that its breach of the agreement caused the deal to fall through.
Medier’s attorney blamed the Tyson vs. Paul bout for the breakup of the commercial partnership, claiming that Tyson’s agreement to fight influencer Jake Paul, covered by the Netflix sponsorship, was the real reason for Tyson company Tyrannic’s hurried and illegal termination. Medier has also stated that the company lost roughly €1.46 million as a result of the agreement with Tyson not being completed.
“Iron” Mike Allegedly Made $20 Million for Fighting Paul
Tyson, 58, faced Paul on November 15 at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas, in his first official professional boxing battle since 2005. Paul won the fight by unanimous decision, improving his career record to 11-1. The fight was televised live on Netflix.
Despite being regarded as one of the all-time greats and a former multiple world heavyweight champion, Tyson’s advanced age was evident during the eight-round bout against Paul. Tyson, the youngest heavyweight champion in history (he won the WBC championship at the age of 20), looked good in the first two rounds, but then he had trouble getting his footing. Platforms for mobile online betting kind of predicted such an outcome by setting short odds for the influencer’s win.
Henry Cejudo, a UFC fighter and Tyson’s friend, told CBS Sports that “Iron” Mike earned $20 million for his battle with Paul.
