Best Approaches to Playing EURO 2024 Fantasy Football: How Does Game Function?
There wouldn’t be a men’s 2024 UEFA European Football Championship experience without the excruciating tension of selecting a side to kick your friends’ and/or family members’ a****, right?
The official fantasy game of UEFA, EURO 2024 Fantasy Football, will accompany the European Championship this summer. On Friday, June 14, Matchday 1 will begin when Germany takes on Scotland. How then does the game function? What distinguishes it from the Fantasy Premier League (FPL), and what are the greatest strategies for winning?
Let the Bookmaker Expert elucidate!
How Do You Build Squad and What’s Way Transfers Go On?
Before the competition begins, transfers are limitless. As opposed to one free transfer every matchday, as in the FPL, you receive two during the group stage. You’re only allowed to make a maximum of three free moves throughout the stage of group play if you save your transfer. Only one transfer can be carried over.
Just like in FPL, you’ll lose four points for each move you make over your free allotment, and you won’t be able to carry over any unused chips.
A table showing how many transfers that cost nothing you get at each stage is shown below.
STAGE | NUMBER OF FREE TRANSFERS |
Before tournament starts | Unlimited |
Group stage | 2 per matchday |
Before round of 16 | Unlimited |
Before quarterfinals | 3 |
Before semifinals | 4 |
Before the final match | 5 |
Similar to FPL, you assemble a team of 15 players, including two goalies, five defensive players, five midfielders, and three strikers.
But building your team won’t be the same as in the FPL. You must choose a well-rounded squad because you can make manual in-game replacements and captaincy changes in this game. The starting XI often receives the most of your budget in FPL, with a cheap bench coming in second. In the EURO 2024 Fantasy Football, this won’t be the best course of action.
With seven matchdays in the competition, you may afford to be much more proactive with your planning and transfer utilization due to the increased number of transfers.
What Are Changes Compared to FPL in Terms of Point Scoring?
Similar to FPL, appearance points, goals, assists, and clean sheets are the main ways points are awarded in EURO 2024 Fantasy Football. But in this game, the scoring matrix is more complex, providing greater benefit to a wider range of players on the team, such as center-backs and midfielders who are more focused on defense. Goals scored from outside the box and for each of the three balls rejected are worth an extra point.
After spending 60 minutes on the field, players earn an extra point in addition to their initial appearance point. Importantly, the “Player of the Match” award now carries three points instead of the FPL bonus points. A UEFA commission will pick the winner, which isn’t an open process. However, in the past, midfield leaders on the field have typically received these honors.
Furthermore, in EURO 2024 Fantasy Football, players who win a penalty are granted two points. This is a significant source of extra points because it’s guaranteed to be awarded irrespective of whether the penalty is converted or not. If a player wins the penalty and scores it, they will both give him points. A player whose fault led to a penalty loses a point.
Except for converted penalties, assist points in EURO 2024 Fantasy Football are distributed substantially in line with FPL. Several other distinctions exist here, one of which is that a pass must be considered deliberate. No assist is given when a goal occurs through an individual run or dribble.
Are There Any Additional Rules That Aren’t Same as FPL?
Following the round of 16, your budget will rise from €100 million to €105 million. It’s more likely that the higher-ranked nations with the priciest assets advanced past the group stage.
Every round, more players from a single team are permitted. Teams may consist of up to three players throughout the group stages. There can be four in the round of 16, five in the quarterfinals, six in the semifinals, and eight in the championship match.
On a subsequent day of that matchday, you might designate another player to be your captain. If you choose to switch, you’ll forfeit any captaincy points you have already accrued.
The FPL deadline is ninety minutes prior to the matchweek’s opening kickoff. The deadline for the EURO 2024 Fantasy Football is the first kickoff of each matchday, so you can obtain team sheets for the opening games prior to making any transfers or roster adjustments.
Prices for players are fixed until the Matchday 2 deadline. Prices will not be determined by moves in and out, but rather by the number of points scored once the Matchday 3 deadline has passed.
But what really sets this game apart from FPL more than anything else is the manual substitution system. You can substitute players who previously appeared for those who haven’t in between matchdays. You can’t bring on players who have already played, so when you choose your starting XI, make sure to start with the players in your XI who play first. You forfeit the player’s points when you substitute a player, and you can’t go back on your choice. If a player is sent off, you’re unable to replace him. Similarly to FPL, automatic substitutions will be applied to your team if no manual substitutions are made. The automatic substitution rule is deactivated if you perform even a single manual replacement.
Choosing a quality 15-pick team with a strong overall roster pays well. Additionally, you should try to cover as many matchdays as you can with your selections; this will increase your opportunities to switch up your lineup and, in the event that your starting XI is devoid of players, increase your alternatives for substituting players. The same is true for captaincy; try to have a variety of captain contenders throughout a matchday.
In FPL, you can unwind after the deadline has passed. Here, that isn’t the case. You must be active in EURO 2024 Fantasy Football and log in frequently to make the necessary roster adjustments if you’re to succeed.
What’s Ideal Captaincy Tactic?
One of the most crucial components of the EURO 2024 Fantasy Football game is captaincy, which can be transferred to a different participant at the conclusion of each match.
The ability to switch captains during the matchday and the fact that your captain will be awarded double points mean that managers need to be vigilant and ready to make changes to their fantasy squad in between games in order to optimize outcomes.
At the very least, you’d want to create a hierarchy and have a decent distribution of captains every single day throughout Matchday 1 in order to maximize the potential of captain strategy. There are too many moving pieces and lessons to be learned from the initial round of games, therefore, it isn’t necessary to plan in detail for the next matchdays at this time, especially with the chips and transfers at our disposal.
Selecting a player from the captaincy list you created means that you receive another chance to win a captaincy each day. If you’re not satisfied with the return you got from the first captain on your list, start with the next one on your list on Saturday, go on to the third one on Sunday, and so on. The tricky part is figuring out who to stick to; a double-point haul is a good place to stop. As the last day approaches, opportunities will decrease as the chances become scarcer.
What About Chips in EURO 2024 Fantasy Football?
Does EURO 2024 Fantasy Football include chips, and if so, how do they function?
Wild card: It’s equivalent to an FPL wild card. Changes to your team are unrestricted and won’t result in a loss of points. Since you have unlimited transfers on Matchdays 1 and 4 (before the round of 16), you’re unable to use the wild card during those matchdays.
Limitless: This is essentially a Free Hit chip on a much larger scale. Similar to the Free Hit in FPL, the Limitless chip lets you select your preferred squad for a single matchday only before your team returns to its original lineup. The only significant distinction is that you have an infinite budget. However, there’s still a cap on the number of players you can select for each team, which varies according to the tournament’s level.
Using the Limitless chip on Matchday 3 and, before that, the wildcard on Matchday 2 is a wise chip strategy. This essentially allows you to select a different squad for each of the first four matchdays. In order to position your squad for the remainder of the campaign, you’re granted limitless transfers once more in the round of 16 following the first three matchdays.
Which Premium Players You Need to Try to Possess?
Tier 1
The two best premiums to own are Kylian Mbappé and Harry Kane, €11m each, who are tier-one players. England is the clear favorite to win the EURO, according to the best German bookmakers and beyond; France is in second place. Additionally, Mbappé is the front-runner to win the Golden Boot, with Kane trailing closely after.
Tier 2
Jude Bellingham (€9.5m), Bruno Fernandes (€9m), and Bukayo Saka (€8.5m) are to be chosen, in our opinion, from the tier-two group.
Tier 3
Next in tier three are Cristiano Ronaldo (€10m), Robert Lewandowski (€9.5m), Phil Foden (€9m), Romelu Lukaku (€9m), and Phil Foden (€9m).
You might still assemble a strong all-around team by adding three or four premiums from the three tiers to your roster.
Naturally, it will be difficult to fit them all in.
