Where and When Will the PUBG Global Championship 2024 (PGC 2024) Be Held?
The most anticipated event of the year for eSports fans following PUBG: Battlegrounds, the PUBG Global Championship 2024 (PGC 2024), which is the fifth edition of the tournament, is rapidly approaching, with the excitement of PUBG Global Series 6 now in full swing. The Tropicana Gardens Mall Convention Center in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, will host the event. The dates of the competition are December 9–22. Three qualifying rounds and a final match are part of the competition (we’ll explain that in a minute). The championship has a $1,500,000 base prize fund. The tournament’s Most Valuable Player will receive $10,000 as part of the event’s recognition of individual accomplishment.
Why did we say that the current prize pool is a base, not the whole sum? In honor of the occasion, the PGC 2024 Pick’em Challenge will be made available, and the base prize pool will be increased by 25% of the money generated through crowdfunding. On November 13, the PGC 2024 Pick’em Challenge got underway. Fans can get voting coupons and buy amazing PGC 2024 stuff at the in-game store. They can use these voting vouchers to support their favorite teams by taking part in the PGC 2024 Pick’em Challenge, earning valuable EP, and adding to the big prize fund. Voting coupons are good until the day before the Grand Finals, which is December 20. A subsequent announcement will be made on the final prize pool distribution.
A live audience will be able to see the Grand Finals.
PUBG Global Series 6 broke a new series record for peak viewership and became the most-watched event in 2024 for the game. PGS6, the last big tournament before the PUBG Global Championship 2024 (PGC 2024), concluded in mid-November in Thailand, and it reached a peak of 327,868 concurrent viewers and produced the game’s highest audience reach figures to date.
Which Teams Will Take Part in the PUBG Global Championship 2024 (PGC 2024)?
The list of tournament participants has already been compiled. Teams from the Americas, APAC, EMEA, China, and Korea will be included in the 24-team field.ShuaiGeDui, which represent Malaysia, the host nation, advanced to the tournament without having to go through the qualifying round on a wildcard basis. Eight teams—Twisting Minds, Soniqs, CERBERUS Esports, 17Gaming, TSM, Natus Vincere, Pertrichor Road, and FaZe Clan—were invited based on the PGS world rating (top 8 according to the Combined PGS Points counting Series 3-6 and EWC). Fifteen more teams made it through the regional series selection process.
Regional seeds:
- Asia: Tianba, NewHappy, Weibo Gaming, Four Angry Men, Freecs, T1, Gen.G.
- Asia Pacific: The Expendables, Daytrade gaming, BLEED Esports.
- Europe: Eternal Fire, BetBoom Team, Virtus.pro.
- Americas: Team Falcons, Luna Galaxy.
Exciting action is guaranteed right away with the new format. Teams compete to advance through three circuits and avoid elimination, making every matchday vital due to the Circuit System. With every League Stage circuit leading up to the Grand Finals, where the SUPER point format requires teams to accumulate a certain number of points and earn an ultimate triumph to win the title, the stakes are higher.
Circuit System consists of three circuits:
- Circuit 1 (December 9-11): Circuit 1 kicks off with 15 teams that earned their spots through regional seeds and one wildcard team from the host city. During Circuit 1, all teams are split based on the PUBG Global Series Point Ranking (the Combined PGS Points). The top 4 teams in ranking start in Circuit 1—Day 3. Teams 5th–8th in ranking start in Circuit 1—Day 2. The remaining teams start in Circuit 1—Day 1. After six matches per day, the bottom four teams on Days 1 and 2 are eliminated from Circuit 1.
- Circuits 2 & 3 (December 12-14; December 16-18): The 12 strongest teams of the first stage will be joined by the 5th-8th and 1st-4th teams of the world ranking. There will be 16 teams at each stage. During Circuits 2 and 3, all teams are split based on the results of the previous circuit. The top 4 teams in the previous circuit start on Day 3. Teams 5th-8th in the previous circuit start on Day 2. The remaining teams start on Day 1. After six matches per day, the bottom four teams on Days 1 and 2 are eliminated from the ongoing circuit. Only points scored on Day 3 of each circuit count towards the circuit standings. The top 16 teams advance to the Grand Finals. The bottom 8 teams are eliminated.
- Grand Finals (December 20-22): Grand Finals will be played under SUPER (Standard and Universal PUBG Esports Ruleset) point format instead of the initially accepted Smash Rule. This means that PUBG Esports match settings will now be identical to the Ranked Mode in-game match settings. There will be 18 matches over three days. The winners of the Grand Finals will be declared the 2024 season world champions.
