At the end of the first of three splits in the current competitive calendar of the professional eSports scene for League of Legends, Riot Games, the game’s publisher, is hosting the LoL: First Stand 2025, the first cross-regional event of the newly formed First Stand series. A three-split calendar akin to the League of Legends EMEA Championship (LEC) that’s applicable to all major regions and the establishment of this new international tournament to wrap up the first split are the results of a new split structure and competitive calendar for the League of Legends eSports scene.

When it was first revealed in June 2024, the First Stand was given the role of a third international competition that would take place at the beginning of the season, prior to the MSI and Worlds.

Where and When Will the LoL: First Stand 2025 Be Held?

The LoL: First Stand 2025 will take place from March 10 to March 16. The results of the tournament will form the seeds for the MSI 2025.

The tournament’s first edition, which will be held exclusively in front of a live audience, has been selected to take place in Seoul at its LoL Park. The best teams in five League of Legends’ international leagues—LCK (South Korea), LPL (China), LTA (Americas), LEC (EMEA), and LCP (Pacific)—make up the LoL: First Stand 2025 line-up.

At the time of writing the text, no information on the prize pool was released by Riot Games.

Which Teams Will Take Part in the LoL: First Stand 2025?

The League of Legends Champions Korea (LCK), League of Legends Pro League (LPL), League of Legends EMEA Championship (LEC), League of Legends Championship of The Americas (LTA), and League of Legends Championship Pacific (LCP) are the five major LoL professional regions.

As said, each of these regions will have one team at the LoL: First Stand 2025 that will qualify by winning their respective splits, each being the first of the season:

  • LCK Cup 2025 (January 15–February 23)
  • LPL Split 1 2025 (January 12–March 1)
  • LTA 2025 Cross Conference (Februar 15–23)
  • LEC Winter 2025 (January 18–March 2)
  • LCP Split 1 2025 (January 17–February 23)

Features of the LoL: First Stand 2025

There will be a single round-robin best-of-three Group Stage for the five qualified teams. Every series in this stage will have a randomly chosen game one side. This is to ensure that each team has a selection edge in two series, according to Riot Games. For two of their series, a team can choose which side of Summoner’s Rift (League of Legends’ premier game mode and the most popular among players at the professional level) to play on, while the other two series will be decided by their opponents. After that, the top four teams move on to the Playoffs, which is a best-of-five bracket with a single elimination. The winner of the Grand Final is named the LoL: First Stand 2025 champion and automatically advances or receives a bye to the Bracket Stage of the 2025 Mid-Season Invitational for their region’s two representatives.

Teams aren’t allowed to select a champion they’ve already used in a series, making the LoL: First Stand 2025 the first international competition to adopt the Fearless Draft system—the latest addition to League of Legends eSports ecosystem.
