So, after being a part of the Esports World Cup 2024, this year’s LoL tournament in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, will go for five days, starting in mid-July.

Apart from the Esports World Cup Foundation, the other co-organizers of the Esports World Cup 2025 LoL are ESL FACEIT Group, a German-French eSports production and organization that hosts video game tournaments all over the world, and Hero Esports, a Chinese eSports organization.

Where and When Will the Esports World Cup 2025 LoL Be Held?

The Esports World Cup 2025 LoL is intended to start on July 16 and end on July 20.

Twelve of the best LoL teams in the world, which is a four-team increase compared to 2024, will be given the chance to play based on their final placements in the mid-season regional splits. Actually, only one of the 12 teams won’t have to go through regional tournaments to find itself in Riyadh: last year’s EWC winner, T1. This means that if they finish in the top 2 at the LCK 2025 Road to MSI, the Korean tournament determining the League of Legends Champions Korea’s representatives at the EWC 2025, the region will be represented by the remaining top-2 finisher and the third-placed side.

The fans will watch the Esports World Cup 2025 LoL battles live, cheering for their favorite teams; however, the venue for the tournament is yet to be determined.

As said, more teams are competing in this year’s League of Legends tournament at the EWC for a piece of the US$2 million prize pool and to support their club in the Club Championship, a cross-game tournament part of the Esports World Cup. The top organizations receive a portion of the prize pool based on how well they play overall across all games throughout the tournament. The way the prize pool will be distributed among the teams is yet unknown.

Features of the Esports World Cup 2025 LoL

The last eight teams from the Mid-Season Invitational 2025 compete in the Group Stage of the Esports World Cup 2025 LoL, and this stage takes place from July 16–17. Four teams from each of these eight groups will compete in each of the two double-elimination group brackets. In the double-elimination bracket, there are winner’s and loser’s brackets; this is referred to as the GSL format. Teams advance if they win two games, or they lose two and are eliminated. A single best-of-one format will be used to decide every match during the Group Stage. In the end, the two groups’ top two clubs move on to the Playoffs.

Eight teams compete in the Playoffs, which run from July 17 to 20. These will consist of the top two teams from each group in the previous Group Stage, as well as the top four seeded teams determined by their final Mid-Season Invitational 2025 positions. A Single-Elimination bracket system is used for the Playoffs. The quarterfinals, which will be best-of-three contests, are scheduled for July 17 and 18. On July 19, the semifinals will take place in a best-of-three format as well. The Esports World Cup 2025 LoL champion will be decided in a best-of-five series during the final on July 20.

The official Esports World Cup channels will show the LoL matches in Riyadh on the majority of streaming services, including YouTube and Twitch.
