Part of the wider BLAST Slam competition framework, this edition serves as a major highlight in the 2025 Dota 2 calendar. It stands as a Tier-1 (S-tier) tournament — meaning it attracts the world’s elite teams, features a substantial prize pool, and holds significant weight for global rankings and team prestige.

The BLAST Slam V will take place from November 25 to December 7, 2025, in the Chinese city of Chengdu, the capital of Sichuan province, which has become a recurring hub for major eSports events in the past couple of years.

BLAST, in partnership with Chengdu Radio & Television, is the official organizer of the event.

  • 6 invited teams (Tundra Esports, HEROIC, Team Spirit, Team Falcons, PARIVISION, Team Liquid)
  • 1 “host region hero invite” (a popular or fan-favorite team from the LAN region)
  • 2 teams via European qualifiers
  • 1 team via China qualifier
  • 1 team via Southeast Asia (SEA) qualifier
  • 1 Americas invite (based on performance in recent Tier-1 events)

The qualification process works like this:

  • Open Qualifiers are held in China, Europe, and SEA. The top teams from these compete in Closed Qualifiers.
  • In China and SEA, the winner of the Closed Qualifier earns a slot in the main event. In Europe, both grand finalists from the Closed Qualifier qualify.
  • The invited teams and hero invite bypass qualifiers and are slotted directly into the main event.

Not only that the full finalized list of 12 teams for the BLAST Slam V still pending public confirmation, but the qualifiers’ participant lists and tournament dates are also unknown.

Features of the BLAST Slam V

According to the official rulebook and event announcements, the BLAST Slam V is structured in two main stages (plus sub-phases) across its duration.

  • Group Stage & Play-In
    • The initial online Group Stage is played over five days.
    • The Last Chance Playoff + Play-In occurs on a single day (immediately following the Group Stage) in the online portion.
  • Playoffs
    • The LAN playoff stage is held over three days for the elimination bracket.

Here’s how matches are played and how the elimination flows:

Group Stage

  • Format: Single group of 12 teams in a round-robin.
  • Match type: Best-of-1 (Bo1) for all group matches.
  • Advancement & elimination after group:
  • Top 2 teams go directly to the Semifinals (skipping Play-In).
  • 3rd to 8th place teams go to the Play-In bracket.
  • 9th to 12th place teams enter the Last Chance Playoff.

Last Chance Playoff

  • Format: Best-of-3 (Bo3) matches.
  • The winners from this stage get slots into the Play-In; the losers are eliminated from the tournament.

Play-In

  • Format: Also Bo3 for all Play-In matches.
  • Winners from the Play-In advance into the Quarterfinals of the LAN playoff stage.
  • Losers of Play-In are eliminated.

Playoffs

  • The playoff bracket is single elimination.
  • All matches except the Grand Final are Bo3.
  • The Grand Final is Best-of-5 (Bo5).

Who’ll Win the BLAST Slam V?

Predicting favorites in Dota 2 tournaments always carries uncertainty (patch changes, team form, meta shifts, etc.), but based on recent results, reputations, and past BLAST performances, and even though the qualifications didn’t even start, these teams are viewed as strong contenders at the BLAST Slam V:

  • Team Falcons — they just won The International 2025 and have strong momentum. Their roster and recent successes make them a top pick.
  • Tundra Esports — historically strong in BLAST Slam events; they’ve taken multiple prior titles in the series.
  • Other invited Tier-1 teams include top DPC/major performers, so outsiders like Team Spirit may also be contenders (depending on the roster).

So, Falcons and Tundra probably lead the pack, but surprises are entirely possible.

Many regional and international eSports betting websites offer odds on Dota 2 tournaments. These might include match winner markets, map handicaps, over/under, “first blood,” etc. Some specialized sites (or sections of major sportsbooks) also accept bets on series outcomes, map picks, and bracket progression. For the BLAST Slam V specifically, you might see odds published ahead of the Group Stage and updated as the tournament progresses.

Early editions had fewer teams (e.g., Slam I had 10 teams). In the BLAST Slam II, they used King of the Hill/Gauntlet playoff formats in some cases (rather than pure single elimination) and invited-only participants. As the series progressed, BLAST has shifted toward a hybrid model combining invites + broader qualifiers, to allow more regional representation and competitive edge.

The inaugural BLAST Slam reached a peak viewership of nearly 200,000 concurrent viewers. It ranked among the more watched Dota 2 events of its year, showing that BLAST’s entry into Dota 2 had audience appetite.

Watching BLAST Slam events is relatively accessible via multiple streaming platforms. Here’s where it’s expected to be broadcast (based on prior editions):

  • BLAST’s official channel/platform (BLAST.tv) — main hub for broadcast and archives.
  • YouTube (BLAST Dota or related channels) — often a parallel official stream.
  • Twitch — one or more channels may carry English (and regional language) streams.
  • Co-streamers/regional media rights partners — in past editions, BLAST has allowed well-known casters or regional media to host co-streams.
  • Esports aggregator sites/tournament trackers — GosuGamers, Liquipedia often provide links or embed broadcasts.
  • Local/regional broadcast partners — in China (host region) and other major esports markets, local television/streaming services may carry the event.
