The 2025 Ryder Cup is played over 3 days of competition, preceded by a practice day:

Let’s explain the match format & system

• Total matches: 28 points available over 3 days.
• Scoring system: Match play – a player/team wins a point for each match. Matches can be halved if tied after 18 holes (0.5 points each). The first team to reach 14½ points wins the Ryder Cup. If the defending champion reaches 14 points, they retain the Cup.

From this, it’s clear that the Ryder Cup doesn’t use a traditional elimination system. It’s rather a round-robin/match play points system over 3 days: teams earn points in foursomes, fourball, and singles matches. All players compete in scheduled matches, and no team or player is eliminated during the tournament. In other words, it’s a team points-based match play format.
