This year’s MSI will be the second cross-regional event in the yearly LoL eSports calendar, much like all prior editions. Vancouver, Canada, will host the 2025 Mid-Season Invitational for two weeks, starting at the end of June. The tournament organizer is Riot Games. Based in Los Angeles, California, Riot Games is an American video game developer, publisher, and eSports competition organizer established to grow League of Legends, the most popular PC game worldwide.

Where and When Will the 2025 Mid-Season Invitational Be Held?

Ten teams—two from each region—will compete in the 2025 Mid-Season Invitational, which will take place in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. It’s the first tournament since 2025 to be held under the game’s new competitive eSports calendar. This will be Canada’s maiden time hosting an international LoL competition, and it will take place from June 27 to July 12, 2025.

The completely offline competition, which will have an incredible US$2,000,000 prize fund, is scheduled to be held at the Pacific Coliseum. The distribution of the prize money among the competitors is still up in the air, though. Apart from the money, there’s an additional motive for participating teams to take the title: the tournament winner will secure its slot at the League of Legends World Championship 2025 (Worlds 2025).

Which Teams Will Take Part in the 2025 Mid-Season Invitational?

The League of Legends Champions Korea (LCK), League of Legends Pro League (LPL, China), League of Legends EMEA Championship (LEC, Europe, the Middle East and Africa), League of Legends Championship of The Americas (LTA), and League of Legends Championship Pacific (LCP) are each going to have two qualified teams. Starting with this season, the team that represented the region that won the First Stand Tournament (FST) will offer the two eligible teams from that region a bye to the Bracket Stage. The LCK is the one to receive two automatic byes to the final stage in this year’s edition of the MSI, and these teams will completely bypass the Play-in Stage. That’s because Hanwha Life Esports won the first edition of the FST, the 2025 First Stand Tournament. The other four regions will each have one team in the Play-In and one team in the Bracket Stage.

The leagues in neither of the regions are finished, so there’s not a single name of the participating team known yet. This is when the final stages of the regional leagues will be played:

  • LCK 2025 Season – LCK Road to MSI 2025: June 7–15
  • LPL Split 2 2025 – Knockout Stage: May 31–June 14
  • LEC Spring 2025 – Playoffs: TBD
  • LCP 2025 Mid Season – Playoffs: May 30–June 8
  • LTA North 2025 Split 2 – Playoffs: May 22–June 8 / LTA South 2025 Split 2 – Playoffs: May 24–June 15.

Features of the 2025 Mid-Season Invitational

The 2025 Mid-Season Invitational will be the first MSI to use the Fearless Draft structure, which prohibits teams from selecting a champion they’ve already faced in a series, even if the other team has already done so. Although Fearless Draft was only supposed to be utilized for the season’s first split, Riot Games declared before the FST 2025 – Grand Final that it would be used for the remainder of the year due to the favorable feedback it garnered during that time.

The top two teams from each region, whose leagues are classified as Qualifications, have the opportunity to compete in the 2025 Mid-Season Invitational. The first seed of each region and the second seed of LCK—the region that won FST 2025—will receive a bye into the Bracket Stage, while the other four teams will begin from the Play-In. The teams competing in the Play-In will use the Global StarCraft II League (or “GSL”) format, which is a double-elimination bracket that selects the top two teams from a four-team group. The top two teams advance to the Bracket Stage, which are to be the 2-0 and 2-1 teams. Fearless Draft is used for all matches, which will be Bo5.

Eight teams will compete in a double-elimination tournament during the Bracket Stage. Fearless Draft is used for matches too, which will also be Bo5. The 2025 Mid-Season Invitational champion advances to the Worlds 2025, while the region whose team finishes in second place receives the fourth seed for their regional league.

Who’ll Win the 2025 Mid-Season Invitational?

Given that neither Qualification is over, there’s no point in speculating about the potential biggest favorites to win the 2025 Mid-Season Invitational. Any bookmaker for esport that’s well-known for providing markets for all the major professional League of Legends events will give you the opportunity to wager on the 2025 Mid-Season Invitational matchups and the overall winners when these regional events conclude.

Right now, the sole information on where to watch the 2025 Mid-Season Invitational is that it will be available on YouTube and Twitch, the two official platforms for events hosted by Riot Games.

This will be the first Mid-Season Invitational to feature two new regional leagues. The first one is LTA, into which the League Championship Series (LCS), Campeonato Brasileiro de League of Legends (CBLOL), and Liga Latinoamérica (LLA) have merged. Also, there’s a new Asia-Pacific league, LCP, in which the League of Legends Japan League (LJL), Vietnam Championship Series (VCS), and League of Legends Circuit Oceania (LCO) merged.

Aside from the Worlds, the Mid-Season Invitational is the second-most significant international League of Legends competition, and it attracts a lot of viewers. For example, with over 500,000 more peak viewers than the year before, last year’s MSI became the most-viewed edition of the event ever. Peak viewership for the MSI 2024, which was won by the Korean side, Gen.G, reached 2.8 million, ranking it as the sixth most-viewed LoL tournament ever.

Pros and Cons of the Fearless Draft Structure

PROSCONS
It becomes increasingly thrilling as the playoffs get near.Draft choices become considerably less significant as a result, with each role selecting a priority list of champions with little consideration.
There are typically a few new champions in a series that aren’t customarily found in the meta.It greatly reduces the likelihood of upset victories.
It helps the teams that performed well with conventional drafting to continue to do so.It prevents players from using specific trademark picks.
It removes the best-of-one matches that a lot of players and fans have been griping about.Since its debut, viewership has decreased.
