Team USA Takes Gold in Figure Skating Event
The United States has won gold in the figure skating team event at the 2026 Winter Olympics in Milan-Cortina, beating strong competition in what was a dramatic finale. Team USA’s victory continued its dominance in the discipline, marking the second consecutive Olympic gold in the team event after triumphing at the 2022 Beijing Games.

American skaters delivered solid performances across all disciplines (ice dance, pairs, women’s singles and men’s singles), but it was Ilia “Quad God” Malinin’s final free skate that sealed the deal.
Malinin, a standout known for his technical prowess, scored an impressive 200.03 points in the men’s free skating portion, securing the title after the U.S. and Japan entered the final segment tied on total points.
Delight for the US Team
Madison Chock and Evan Bates helped set the stage with a commanding ice dance showing earlier in the competition, and though some teammates faced tough challenges (including a less‑than‑ideal performance from Amber Glenn in the women’s free skate), the cumulative effort held up when it mattered most.
Italy, the host nation, took the bronze medal in its home Games. They’re not known for great success in figure skating, and the podium finish shows just how important it can be to have home advantage.
The USA’s Gold resonates especially after mixed experiences in previous Games; their 2022 team gold was awarded retroactively following a doping disqualification of another nation. This one, however, was achieved outright on the ice.
