Figure Skating Takes Centre Stage Early at Winter Olympics 2026

Publication date:

Figure skating is set to become one of the early focal points of the Milano-Cortina 2026 Winter Olympics, with the first sessions scheduled to take place just days into the competition. The sport, traditionally one of the Games’ biggest television draws, will feature individual and team events across multiple disciplines, including men’s, women’s, pairs and ice dance.

Organisers have confirmed that figure skating events will be held at the Forum di Milano, one of the flagship indoor venues for the Games. It all kicks off on February 6 with the team event and runs through February 19, finishing with the women’s singles free skate.

Broadcasters Prepare for High Early Demand

Interest in figure skating has been particularly strong in the build-up to the Games, with broadcasters anticipating many millions tuning in. Several national networks have confirmed their extended coverage, reflecting the sport’s global appeal and prime-time scheduling around the world.

The team event, which often sets the tone for the rest of the competition, is expected to attract a lot of attention. Japan’s Yuma Kagiyama and Canada’s Kaetlyn Osmond, both returning medalists, will compete in the opening action alongside Italy’s emerging pair Sara Conti & Niccolò Macii.

Figure skating joins curling and a handful of other sports that traditionally begin before the formal start of the Games, ensuring competitive action is underway almost immediately.
