Betano Becomes New General Sponsor of South American Football Powerhouse River Plate

Betano, which has received many awards for betting operator of the year, will become the new main sponsor of the most-titled Argentine football club, Club Atlético River Plate. The contract is expected to come into force in May 2025 and will run until July 31, 2027.

River Plate have taken action to find a new sponsor as their deal with Codere, the first casino operator in Latin America to go public on the Nasdaq draws closer to completion. If everything goes according to plan, the club’s next major sponsor will be Betano. After the separation with Codere, the primary sponsor since the middle of 2022, expires, “Los Millonarios” (The Millionaires) will instantly start donning the Greek betting company’s name on their jersey. In that regard, several details are already known, pending officialization.

How Much Will Betano Pay River?

At this point, the parties have reached a complete agreement. In May of this year, Betano would take over as River’s primary sponsor. The agreement also includes a two-year extension after it ends on July 31, 2027. Additionally, the sponsorship could be extended for an additional year.

The 38-time Argentine champions and four-time Copa Libertadores de América winners are predicted to earn US$6 million a year, or about US$5 million net, though this amount may rise based on how many trophies they win. The deal with Codere had previously called for US$3.5 million, that is, it will be a significant improvement if those numbers are finally decided upon.

Although the contract with Codere is set to expire at the end of July, it might not stay in effect until then. Although it hasn’t been confirmed yet, Betano may be River’s primary sponsor already at the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup, which starts on June 14, according to the club sources. This would push forward Betano logo’s debut on the River jersey.

In recent years, Betano, which operates in 18 countries and is established as the best site for online betting in Greece, has had a big influence on football club sponsorships.

The Athens-based betting brand is already present on the jerseys of several teams in Europe, including Olympiacos F.C., S.L. Benfica, Sporting CP, and Aston Villa F.C. Its sponsorships in Latin America include Club Universidad de Chile, Fluminense FC, and Clube Atlético Mineiro.
