Top 5 Biggest Winnings at Bookmakers Worldwide in 2021

Publication date:

As we stepped into 2022, let’s take a look back at some of the wisest and wildest bets, and most importantly – the largest outright wagering wins from last year. We’ve selected the Top 5 winnings that have been officially reported and published by bookies, many of which are rated as the world’s top bookmakers, all over the globe either on their websites or on social media in 2021.

#1 Payout: $1.36 Million

A London-based bettor hit a 6-game parlay this summer that included two Euro 2020 soccer matches and the outright winners in four of the week’s golf tournaments. He put in $15.50.

The matches and odds were as follows:

● Croatia will defeat Scotland (2.40)
● England will defeat the Czech Republic (1.55)
● Steve Striker will win the Bridgestone Senior Players Championship (6.00)
● Nelly Korda will win the KPMG Women’s PGA Championship (15.00)
● Viktor Hovland will win BMW International Open (7.50)
● Harris English will win the Travelers Championship (36.00)

According to Betfair, an online sportsbook in the United Kingdom, the total odds were 90,396. The last bet the bettor awaited to get a payout of $1.36 million was that Harris English wins the Travelers Championship, which the American did on the 8th hole of the longest playoff in a PGA Tour event in the last 9 years.

#2 Payout: More Than $1 Million

A bettor in Nevada put in $30,000 on Shohei Ohtani to become the MVP of the American League in baseball at 30.00 odds on March 19. The L.A. Angels player was a starting pitcher who went 9-2 with 156 strikeouts and hit 46 home runs with 100 RBIs. In November, he was crowned MVP, incurring Caesars Sportsbook a 7-figure loss on an awards market that doesn’t usually generate much betting interest.

Even though it didn’t specify the exact amount lost, the Nevada-based casino-entertainment company admitted it paid out over $1 million. It was the largest loss Caesars Sportsbook had ever faced on an awards market, according to the company.

#3 Payout: $1 million

On June 2, a BetMGM bettor earned $1 million on a $400,000 moneyline wager on the Dallas Mavericks to beat the Los Angeles Clippers in the NBA.
Luka Dončić scored 42 points to lead the 3.50 underdogs, Mavs, to a 105-100 triumph.

#4 Payout: $966,290

A FanDuel bettor placed $8 on a 12-match parlay incorporating each match result from the Ryder Cup’s last day in September.
As Team USA secured the victory, the unnamed bettor, who’s based in Illinois, USA, nailed every result, including both ties. This way, the bettor won $966,290.

#5 Payout: $300,000

On the Wednesday before the PGA Championship’s first round, a bettor in New Jersey placed a $1,000 wager with DraftKings on Phil Mickelson to win the tournament at 300.00 odds.
The American golfer beat these odds to win his 6th major championship, netting the bettor $300,000.

For the End…

There were some bets in 2021 that were narrowly missed by those who placed them. The potential winning would launch these bettors to this list in case they hit them, such was the case of a famous former NBA player Charles Barkley.

He boasted about his improved golf skills, placing $100,000 on himself to rank in the top 70 of the American Century Championship celebrity tournament. Barkley got the odds of 8.00. However, the 11-time NBA All-Star was in a tie for 76th place.
